Make an Electric Guitar Cheaply

If you get excited about electric guitars, then you might be surprised to know that you can make your very own, great sounding electric guitar for under $20 (AU). Yes! It is possible! Some participants at The Workshop have created an electric guitar made out of styrafoam! It’s based on an ingenious design developed by CyberFeral (which is an Arts/Engineering Collective including Charles, The Workshop co-ordinator). By using ‘reclaimed’ (pre-loved) materials, and simple hand tools, you can make your own electric guitar. We can show you how! Most of the instruments that participants make at The Workshop are all done using simple hand tools. Power tools can get expensive, so using only basic tools helps to keep the costs down. So you don’t need to go out and buy a whole heap of fancy tools, to make the instruments we talk about here. This important fact means that anyone, without much money, can still make a great sounding musical instrument.

All Sorts of Percussion

At The Reclaimers we’ve built a variety of different percussion instruments, using recycled materials, thanks to the designs provided by Cyberferal. We’ve got snare drums, lagerphones, tambourines, bass drums, and cymbals that have all been made at The Workshop in Brisbane. And you can build your own percussion instruments too! Check out some of the pics we’ve posted on our Facebook page. Hopefully the photos can give you a good idea of how to make them.
